AXELOS is excited and proud to announce the first launch of ITIL 4, the next evolution of ITIL. ITIL 4 Foundation has now launched (February 2019)!

ITIL 4 expands on previous versions by providing a practical and flexible basis to support organizations on their journey to the new world of digital transformation. It provides an end-to-end IT/digital operating model for the delivery and operation of tech-enabled products and services and enables IT teams to continue to play a crucial role in wider business strategy.

What is ITIL 4 Foundation?

The Foundation level is designed as an introduction to ITIL 4 and enables candidates to look at IT service management through a BRAND NEW end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery and continual improvement of tech-enabled products and services.

What are the course objectives?

ITIL® 4 is the latest release of the ITIL framework, designed to provide a more practical viewpoint to the ITIL lifecycle with best practices from other complementary platforms such as Agile, DevOps and Lean. The objective of this course is to provide a foundational level of understanding of the ITIL 4 framework, key elements, concepts and terminologies associated with ITIL service lifecycle, and how it has evolved to adopt modern technologies and operational processes. The course covers all necessary concepts in the service management framework to support candidates studying for the ITIL 4 Foundation Certification Exam.

What is the format for the ITIL Certification Exam?

To receive the ITIL® 4 Foundation certification, you must:

1. Complete the certification training
2. Take the ITIL 4 Foundation Certification exam
3. Score at least 65 per cent on the exam (26 correct answers out of 40 questions] in 60 minutes

What is the ITIL® 4 Foundation Certification?

ITIL® 4 Foundation is the most widely acknowledged entry-level ITIL certification available for IT professionals. This newest training for the ITIL framework is designed to introduce learners to the management of modern IT-enabled services, including key concepts and common language used in the ITIL services lifecycle.

You will receive the ITIL® 4 Foundation results from 10-15 days after you take the exam.

ITIL v4 Foundation

The first release of ITIL 4 Foundation level has now launched, with the following higher levels due for release in H2 2019. The certification scheme shared below is aligned with ITIL v3 and has been streamlined to provide clear paths for practitioners to continue their ITIL journey.

What does this mean for ITIL v3?

ITIL v3 is as relevant as ever and continues to be in demand globally by hundreds and thousands of IT practitioners. It continues to support organizations and individuals to gain optimal value from IT and digital services. ITIL 4 retains many of the core elements of good IT service management, that is continuing to give value to millions of people and businesses around the world.

All certifications for ITIL will remain valid following the update and will continue to be recognized as valuable certifications globally. All credits gained can help you continue your ITIL journey in the new certification scheme. To enable an easy transition and maximise current investments, we recommend candidates to continue to collect the 17 ITIL v3 credits necessary to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module (one course, one exam).

ITIL 4 is an evolution from ITIL v3, providing a practical and flexible transition that allows organizations to adopt the new ways of working required by the modern digital world.

They are many ways to transition to ITIL 4 while still gaining the skills and knowledge needed to understand the core concepts of the updated guidance.

ITIL v3 Foundation certified

If you are ITIL v3 Foundation certified, the next step is to take ITIL 4 Foundation in order to be able to transition to the new scheme.

There is a large amount of new material in ITIL 4 Foundation therefore a new single exam is required to assess the knowledge and understanding of the new guidance.

ITIL Intermediate/Practitioner level

If you are already on your ITIL journey and have started collecting Intermediate or Practitioner credits then it is in your interest to continue collecting v3 credits to prepare you for an easy transition to ITIL 4 and gain the ITIL Managing Professional designation.

You will need to reach 17 credits to be eligible to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module. You will no longer need to take Managing Across the Lifecycle.

ITIL v3 Expert

If you’ve made it to ITIL v3 Expert, then you can take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition module as soon as it is released to achieve the ITIL Managing Professional designation.

After achieving the ITIL Managing Professional designation, if you’re interested in pursuing the ITIL Strategic Leader stream, you would only need to complete the ITIL Leader Digital & Strategy module.

Completion of both streams means you are eligible to move towards ITIL Master.

They are many ways to transition to ITIL 4 while still gaining the skills and knowledge needed to understand the core concepts of the updated guidance.

If you are ITIL v3 Foundation certified, the next step is to take ITIL 4 Foundation in order to be able to transition to the new scheme.
